I have never played kickball before. Can I be a captain?
Yes! If you are a Mom or Dad, you are qualified. We will take pet parents, too!
What are my responsibilities?
Try to schedule a gathering or a practice or both so the players can get to know each other.. Make sure there are enough players for each game. Go into the captains' chat to ask for players if you need some. Deliver tees to the players. You or the acting captain in your absence can ask for clarification on a call during a game.
What support will I get?
We have a Zoom call prior to the season. We have a groupchat during in-season via GroupMe. We have a captain mentor to help you with anything else.
Do I need to provide balls?
You will be provided with two 10" balls for practices and to bring to games. The home team provides game day balls, but the visiting team should bring balls just in case.
Should I schedule practices?
Take a team poll. This is completely up to you. Some teams practice. Some teams don't.
How do I know what practice fields are available?
You will be given access to a Google Sheet with available fields at the location where you play games. There is no extra cost for this.
How will I communicate with my team?
You can use the chat feature in TeamSnap. You can use GroupMe. You can set up a group in What's App. It's totally up to you and what you are comfortable with.
Do I have access to add calendar items to TeamSnap?
Yes. You will get edit rights so you can add practices, team bonding events, etc.
Can we have more than one captain? Many teams have two captains.
One is the admin person, and the other one is usually the sporty one and takes control of practices and game day.
What do I need to do on game day?
Bring balls, check attendance, do a field line up and kicking order. We will review this on our Zoom captain meeting prior to the season starting.
Bugs-the fields sometimes have gnats. I suggest hats and bug spray to keep these buggers away!
Are there uniforms?
You will be given the tees (included with your registration fee and any additional paid orders) to distribute to your players. They should wear these tees on game day. They can wear anything else on their bottoms. You are allowed to alter your tee in any way you want. Some teams have matching socks, hats. They bedazzle and tie dye. Be creative! The team will be responsible to pay for any altering you do.
Who pays the umps?
The team will be responsible for taking a collection and paying the umps directly during the season. Each team pays half of the fee directly to the ump. The fee is $36 per game.
Should I get a first aid kit?
I would. We trip, fall, scrape our knees and scratch up our hands. I suggest each player donating an item for the first aid kit.
Can I play music?
The home team can play music during the games. We highly encourage 80s music!
Which bench do we use?
Whatever team arrives first can choose their bench.
